Preparation
A cozy bed is the sum of all its parts: Everything from a just-right mattress and soft sheets to fluffy pillows determines its comfort level. One piece that shouldn’t be overlooked is a duvet cover. It’s the cherry on top: Not only does its insert give your bed an extra degree of warmth (especially in winter!), but it can also bring an extra dose of style to your bedroom.
As for the qualities to look for in a duvet cover? Consider the feel and weightiness of the piece, says Ginger Curtis, the president of Urbanology Designs. From there, look for other details you love, like ties at the end (which offer a chic look, says Curtis) or your favorite fabric. “We absolutely love linen; we admire the texture and warmth it adds to a space,” says Curtis. “You have to accept that linen will crease, but that’s the beauty of it, too. It looks lived in and loved.”
To help you find a duvet cover that checks all your boxes, we rounded up some of our favorites on the market.
